PMO - Project Management Office

About the Project Management Office

Western's Project Management Office (PMO) was established in 2019 within the Enterprise Application Services (EAS) department which is a part of Information Technology Services (ITS). The PMO is here to help Western in managing strategic, tactical, or operational projects. The PMO centralizes the demand intake and optimizes the project portfolio and resource capacity to deliver your organization’s strategic initiatives.

The type of projects that align with the PMO portfolio management are projects that include technology initiatives, are considered to be complex with high impact, or involve multiple areas or divisions across campus. The PMO provides project management for the full project lifecycle, as well as PM light, and business process analysis.

What is a Project, anyway? A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. It must have a beginning and an end with a clear purpose, objective, and desired outcome. Typically, this endeavor brings about change

Assigned Project Manager

An assigned Project Manager (PM) plans, organizes, leads, and controls the project efficiently and effectively.  The PM manages the project through the full lifecycle including stakeholder identification, developing the business case, defining scope, requirements gathering, managing resources, schedules, financials, issues, risks, and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery.

Business Process Analysis (BPA)

A BPA is a methodology for the analysis of processes with the potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. The methodology describes the processes, parties participating, information exchanged, and documents produced. Business process analysis generates the information needed to assess and address the roots of process inefficiencies and make informed decisions. A BPA can help you understand how the work happens inside the organization and how well the business achieves its goals.

Contact the PMO right away if your project involves technology (purchase, integration, networking, etc.), numerous stakeholders, or the new processes or systems will impact or be used by campus end-users -- students, faculty, or staff.
