Description

Implement the PageUp Performance module for use in professional staff performance
evaluations, replacing the unsupported system EPAS.

Background

For many years, Western Washington University has conducted performance evaluations for professional staff using the EPAS (Employee Performance Appraisal System) software. However, EPAS uses old technology and can no longer be modified. In addition, there have been issues with it in recent years that were challenging and time-consuming to correct. At this point, EPAS must be considered unsupported due to its outdated architecture and instability, and we need to implement another system to replace it by spring of 2025.  This rapid implementation schedule is possible because WWU already owns a license to an alternative system for performance evaluations: PageUp Performance. Fortunately, this software has a flexible design that can allow it to be configured according to our preferences.  Therefore, due to the precarious state of EPAS and the need for a short turn-around, we intend to implement PageUp Performance to simply replace what we already have. In other words, we will configure Performance to mirror the functionality and workflows of EPAS, and use it for the same cohort of employees, i.e. professional staff. This will make the software transition easier for campus users.
Preliminary configuration and testing of PageUp Performance indicate this goal is achievable. In future projects, we may decide to modify functionality or workflows, or expand evaluation subjects to include classified staff, but that is out of scope for this project.
